Boys & Girls JV / Varsity Divisions
To ensure fair and competitive play, all teams must register in the appropriate division based on player grade level and/or age. Below are the definitions for Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity divisions:
Boys & Girls JV Division:
- Players must be rising 9th or 10th graders (typically 14–16 years old).
- Generally, for athletes who have not yet played varsity-level basketball.
- Intended for:
- High school freshman and sophomore teams
- Club teams made up of underclassmen
- Players still developing for varsity-level play
Grade Eligibility: Must be entering 9th or 10th grade in the upcoming school year
Age Cap: Must be 16 years old or younger as of August 31 of the current AAU season
Boys & Girls Varsity Division:
- Open to rising 11th and 12th graders (typically 16–18 years old)
- For teams with players who have played or are prepared to compete at the varsity high school level
Grade Eligibility: Must be entering 11th or 12th grade in the upcoming school year
Age Cap: Must be 18 years old or younger as of August 31 of the current AAU season
Important Notes:
- Players may not play down a division (e.g., varsity players cannot play JV)
- Teams must compete in the division that best matches their players’ oldest age/grade
- Birth certificates and grade documentation may be required to verify eligibility
- Mixed-grade teams must register in the division of their oldest player
